The Faculty of Social Sciences has postgraduate level studies in eleven different subjects.
The studies covers 240 credits over four years and concludes with a Doctorate degree but there is also the option of finishing after two years with a Licentiate degree.
The postgraduate studies are the highest formal course available and aims at providing qualified education to people who want to work with research and development issues, both inside and outside universities and colleges.
The Doctorate gives formal access to apply for positions such as a senior university lecturer and is often set as a requirement for access to higher positions in public administration.
The aim of the studies are to develop the knowledge and skills required for independently researching and contributing to the furtherance of knowledge in the respective subjects by publishing a scientific journal. The studies allow the Doctorate student to dedicate themselves to planning skills, management and running a research project.
Postgraduate studies also give students the opportunity of developing communicative and educational skills by taking part in institutional seminars and teaching. Because the research work takes place in proximity to other researchers, both domestic and international, the studies also provide the chance of building up a contact network within the actual research area. Doctorate students are encouraged therefore to take part in international research conferences and there is also the opportunity of spending some of their course time at an international seat of learning.
The Postgraduate course requires the applicant to meet the requirements applicable for undergraduates and other specific qualifications. Specific qualifications depend on the subject and are laid out in the study plan for the subject.
