Research at the faculty of Social Science

The faculty’s research enjoys national prominence and international renown in a number of fields. Research takes place into democracy and politics, working life and social relations, risk and security, the individual’s adaptation and development, as well as global change.

The research is also of great significance for society in general. It is in the nature of the social sciences that the research is utilized and applied within the public, private and voluntary sectors. Cooperation with the surrounding society is an integrated part of the research. Research in the social sciences is indispensable in resolving and dealing with major contemporary problems pertaining to issues such as the environment, health, war and poverty.

The point of departure for the faculty’s research strategy (2009–2012) is contemporary global problems and change processes (for instance those concerning climate and demographics) and the consequences they have for the individual and society, as well as issues of certainty and security.
